"Flights of Fancy"

I seldom tire of bird motifs used throughout decorating whether it be on fabrics and wallpapers or on accessories such as plates and prints.

I came across this charming feature story "Flights of Fancy" in the September/October 2008 issue of Victoria magazine and wanted to share some of their ideas with you. Stylist Heidi Adams did a great job setting up each shot to be photographed by Manny Rodrigeuz. The wall in the shot below gives the rooms an amazing aged patina - wondering if Heidi found that in her location or created it? Regardless, it is beautiful and the perfect blue.

Birds fill our lives with song. We watch them industriously pulling worms from the garden and flitting around the sky. Nothing brings me more joy than to see a wood pigeon feeding in the back garden and hearing it's wonderful cooing or the swallows swooping in and out of my parents barn in Connecticut feeding their hungry babies in the nests above.

Many birds are associated with certain connotations - the wise owl, mischievous magpies (of which we have many here in Ireland!), sweet Christmas robins, talkative parrots, graceful swans and peaceful doves.

So do you like birds? Or find them creepy in regards to decorating? Regardless, I hope these images will inspire you for today.

I'm now back in New England enjoying slightly cooler temperatures. New York City was brutally hot - either that or I'm not used to it at all!! Fun to be back for a visit though.
